This tour is designed for those passengers who would like time to explore the Old Town of Gdańsk independently. Departing from the pier in Gdynia, we will drive through the small town of Oliwa, passing the Abbot’s Palace and Gardens and the beautiful Oliwa Cathedral. We also pass the Gdańsk Shipyard and the Solidarity Monument, commemorating the deaths of the shipyard workers shot down in December 1970. Upon arrival in Gdańsk, our English speaking guide will take us on a guided walk through the Old Town. From Green Gate we will enter the pedestrian area and see such highlights as the impressive gabled architecture of the buildings and Long Market in Long Street, Neptune’s Fountain, St Mary’s Church, the cobbled Mariacka (St Mary’s) Street and Long Wharf with its crane. Then we will have approximately two hours in which to sightsee or shop for souvenirs including amber and silver jewellery, local artworks and handicrafts. At a designated time, the guide will meet us again and walk us back to the coach for our return journey to Gdynia.
After the walk with the guide – approximately two and a half kilometres (one and a half miles) – the amount of walking undertaken is at passengers’ own discretion. Please note that the driving time to and from Gdańsk is usually between an hour and an hour and a quarter, depending on traffic.
